MPD Crime Alert: Robberies

Last Saturday, I was jumped a half-block away from my house in the Hale/Page/Diamond Lake community while walking from the bus stop. I was lucky because I only had to part with my cell phone, and not any of the other electronics I had, nor my wallet. I am still bruised and scraped up, but I’m alive. I still can’t believe it happened to me, here, where you never hear of much crime occurring at all.

I am not alone. There have eight other robberies of persons since September 4th, according to a Crime Alert put out by the Minneapolis Police Department on September 26th. To help myself and others visualize the area, I’ve plotted it out in Google Maps with the information. (Mine is the 9/20 one.)

The area has also had dozens of burglaries, as well, a story which was picked up by the Star Tribune.

While I’d love to believe that the police will catch the people who are doing these things, I know that is not always the way the world works.

Edit: KARE11 has picked up on the story, but poorly. It’s nice to read that “no one has been injured!” I’m just curious as to where my busted-ass knee and arm came from, then? Morons. No one has been injured by a gun. Important distinction. They also couldn’t be assed to name the specific neighborhoods this happened in.

Edit 2: After sending an email to the KARE11 reporter, it seems like this is mostly a case of wanting to get the news out first, rather than waiting for all of the facts. There also seems to have been more information on the locations during a broadcast, including a map, but since I don’t want TV news I would’ve missed it. The police report is also pretty bare-bones, but I figure that is the whole point. I spent some time chasing them and weaving between houses, the alley, and the front sidewalk in front of the houses for a couple blocks, trying to pursuad them to just give me my phone back, screaming and generally acting crazy as hell. Unfortunately, I am medicated these days so that didn’t work out.
