Shirobu

In a video on YouTube lasting just over a minute in length with nearly 4.2 million views, a Himalayan cat named Shirobu reclines at a table. (The Japanese title translates into “Dandyism,” according to Google Translate.) His large furry body is propped up with pillows. We never actually see Shirobu partake in any of the Japanese food or drink arranged in front of him, although he appears to chew on something small at the beginning of the video. Instead he grooms himself, pausing only to look around the room blankly for a couple seconds.

School of Tadpoles

A school of tadpoles chilling along the edge of the water. Judging from their abundance on land nearby, these are most likely to be future American toads.

Going Clubbing

Here’s an unlikely hip-hop music video which begins with Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker, Jamie Foxx, and Ron Howard showing up together at a party. Samuel L. Jackson is already there, chilling with a young woman whose boobs are hanging out. The party is off the hook, there’s even a man wearing a giant panda head. At one point, Ron Howard raises up his champagne glass in unison with the others, while dollar bills flutter down from the ceiling.

Cheers

It is like an all-star lineup of weirdness in the MN Senate recount, going beyond “my grandma voted for Jesse Ventura” weirdness: Lizard People and the Flying Spaghetti Monster joined write-in favorites Mickey Mouse and Jesus.

The other day, there was concern over whether Lizard People could be someone’s name, as Franken’s lawyer contended that since Lizard People was not a real person, it shouldn’t count as an overvote. Coleman’s lawyer helpfully suggested “Beaver” and “Chopper” as unusual nicknames some people have. It eventually was counted as an overvote. (Donovan has more on Mpls Metblog about why that was a dumb position to take and why Franken needs a new lawyer.)

Local news crew The UpTake has been grinding away and providing non-stop recount coverage, and it’s been paying off, with record-breaking traffic to their site. Their hard work was also spotted on CNN, with regards to their coverage of MN Senate recount comedy ballots.
